According to Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has a greater chance of becoming president within the largest opposition party.

The former governor of Anambra State has all the qualifications to be president of Nigeria, according to Showunmi, who made this statement on the Mic On Show podcast. However, he needs to be a member of a more reputable political party.

He claims that the politician from Anambra has the numbers to win in the Christian North, North Central, and the South-South, with the exception of Peter Obi’s South East zone.

Peter Obi was proclaimed the winner of Lagos State in the 2023 presidential election, defeating former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu.

Showunmi said: “If his numbers and the animated energy that is following him were to follow him into the PDP and he is the presidential candidate, I can guarantee you Peter would take the Southeast, Peter would take the South-South, Peter would take the Christian North, and Peter would take the North Central.”

Prior to the general election in 2023, Peter Obi joined the Labour Party after leaving the PDP.

He won 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, in his run against prominent opponents Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, proclaimed Bola Tinubu the victor of the poll.

Peter Obi should think about joining the PDP again, according to Showunmi.
