Arsenal are reportedly preparing to activate the €60 million release clause for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the North London club has reached an agreement to sign Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
According to Romano, the 26-year-old is set to become the first player brought in by manager Mikel Arteta ahead of the upcoming season.
“Arsenal agree deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, here lll go!
“Zubimendi has now verbally agreed to sign a long term deal… so formal steps must follow soon with Arsenal to trigger €60m clause.
“Zubi, ready to become the first signing of the new season,” Romano tweeted on Saturday.
Following their failure to secure either the Premier League or Champions League titles this season, Arsenal are aiming to strengthen the squad. With fewer than three games remaining, they are currently focused on securing second place in the league.
