After posting a picture of a young girl he says is his wife, a man posing as an Islamic student has provoked controversy.

He posted the picture in response to a man who tweeted that his wife, who had turned 18, was expecting their first kid.

He praised his own “baby wife” after congratulating the man on having a youthful wife.

Posing with her head covered with a hijab, the girl appears to be under ten years old.

In the caption, the man wrote: “Allahu Akbar my dear brother Allah all mighty has certainly blessed you may your child be a righteous one. My baby wife Aminatu Gidado Bello isn’t old enough to get pregnant yet but I love her dearly.”

Nigerians were outraged by the tweet, accusing him of paedophilia and questioning why it should be permitted in Nigeria.
