An AK-47 weapon was found on the roof of a residential apartment in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, that was undergoing renovations, according to the Anambra State Police Command.

This was announced in a statement released in Awka on Friday by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s spokesperson.

According to Ikenga, command personnel recovered the rifle at Ihuowele Ngo Village on Friday by using information provided by locals.

He stated that an initial investigation had revealed a possible connection between the weapon and a Samson, who was apparently a notorious person and the apartment’s previous occupant.

“The Police Command in Anambra leveraging on necessary information from the good indigenes of the state on July 11, 2025 by 12:30pm recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle in a residential apartment under renovation at Ihuowele Ngo Village, Igboukwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra state,” he said.

He continued by saying that attempts are being made to find and capture Samson, who hasn’t been spotted in the area since June 2024.

The police image maker added that CP Ikioye Orutugu, the state’s commissioner of police, praised the community members’ alertness and reaffirmed the value of community-police cooperation.

According to Ikenga, the commissioner asked the public to keep sending in timely, useful information that would help the police fulfill their duty to safeguard people and property.

Recall that during the gunfight with the Police-led Joint Task Force (JTF) at Oko-Ekwulobia flyover in Aguata LGA on Wednesday, the JTF also retrieved an AK-47 rifle that was purportedly used by suspected gunmen.
