Atrium Health Foundation has received a significant boost with five grants totalling $4 million from the Duke Endowment to support nursing and physician programmes within the Atrium Health system. A substantial portion of the funding, $1.45 million, will be used to launch a virtual nursing program at Atrium Health Stanly. This initiative will make Atrium Health Stanly the first all-wired virtual nursing facility in rural North Carolina, expected to create 50 new jobs in the county.

The virtual nursing programme will leverage new technology to deliver high-quality healthcare to the community. Other grants will support initiatives such as:
– Study on AI Language Translation Tool: Investigating the impact of an AI language translation tool in a clinical setting to enhance patient care and streamline workflow
– Mobile App Development: Creating a user-friendly mobile app and web-based platform to improve workflow and communication between schools and Atrium Health
– School-Based Program: Supporting the Health Sciences Academy at Atrium Health Union, which prepares students for successful futures in health sciences careers

Atrium Health Stanly’s facility executive, Marietta Abernathy, expressed gratitude for the grant, saying, “We are grateful to The Duke Endowment for embracing Atrium Health’s forward-thinking approach to meeting our evolving needs for nursing care. Having cameras in every room will enable our bedside nurses to focus on direct patient care while virtual nurses provide continuous monitoring and timely interventions, helping to reduce hospital readmissions and improve outcomes.”
This funding will significantly advance Atrium Health’s commitments to uplifting the communities it serves and advancing rural health initiatives.
