Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has responded to Bruno Fernandes after the club captain welcomed him ahead of his return to Old Trafford.

Fernandes had recently reached out to De Gea, who now plays for Fiorentina, saying: “David, my friend, I can’t wait to see you at the Snapdragon Cup.”

De Gea is set to return to Manchester this Saturday as Fiorentina face Manchester United in a pre-season friendly match at Old Trafford.

The Spanish shot-stopper spent twelve years with the Red Devils before departing in 2023.

In response, De Gea, speaking through Manchester United’s official platform, said he is looking forward to reuniting with Fernandes and several of his former teammates.

“Hello, as you know, I’m coming home. For sure, it’s going to be a special game for me,” De Gea said.

“Bruno, you know, you cannot score against me, and if you score, it’s because I let you score so people keep singing your name! But honestly I can’t wait to see you my friend. I can’t wait to see you all at Old Trafford, so I will be there on Saturday, see you soon!”
