Two young guys have been taken into custody by the Gombe State Police Command in relation to the murder of Dauda Ahmed, 22, in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.
On suspicion of stealing a motorcycle, the suspects, identified as 20-year-old Babayo Musa and 18-year-old Zaidu Sani, allegedly planned to assault the victim with machetes in concert with two other fugitive accomplices.
The incident happened Tuesday morning near Jauro Musa Quarters, where Ahmed was ambushed and suffered severe injuries to his head and stomach, according to police records. He was sent to Kumo’s General Hospital, but upon arrival, they declared him dead.
DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police public relations officer, called the killing a “clear case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide,” emphasizing that jungle justice is still illegal regardless of the specific charge.
“Two suspects have been arrested and have confessed to the attack. The remaining suspects, identified only as Sulaiman and Usama, are still at large,” Abdullahi said.
“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. Such acts undermine the justice system, and all those responsible will face the full wrath of the law.”
CSP Adam Ngubdo, the Divisional Police Officer of Akko Division, led a squad to the murder scene after the victim’s older brother, Dahiru Ahmed, of Sarkin Yaki Quarters, initially reported the incident. Later, the suspects were located and apprehended.
Police have asked citizens to report crimes through proper channels instead of using violence, and the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal inquiry Department for additional inquiry and prosecution.
“We appeal to the public to remain law-abiding and assist in tracking the fleeing suspects,” the police spokesman added.
