After a pregnant nurse was murdered, authorities found human remains in a shrine, shocking the Anambra community. A manhunt was started to find the fugitive.

The discovery of a pregnant nurse’s disfigured body and human parts concealed in a shrine earlier this week rocked the sleepy village of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, igniting considerable indignation and dread throughout the state.

The Anambra State Police Command reports that a 24-year-old lady named Somtochukwu Nwafor was taken into custody in relation to the horrific deed. She admitted to being the girlfriend of Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, the key suspect who is now at large, during police questioning.

Fears of ritualistic practices were further confirmed when investigators discovered human parts at a native doctor’s shrine after she confessed.

A police spokesperson called the discovery “horrific” and promised that anyone responsible will face consequences.

“This is a brutal crime. We urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the prime suspect to come forward,” the spokesperson said.

Numerous Nigerians have responded to the news on social media by calling for stricter regulations on ritual killings and increased community security. Shortly after the news broke, the hashtag #JusticeForThePregnantNurse became viral.

Authorities have explained that while body parts were seized, the site was a shrine supposedly used for religious purposes rather than a commercial trading hub, despite some internet users making false claims that a “human parts market” had been busted in Ogbunike.

Police are stepping up their search for the fugitive suspect and potential accomplices, and investigations are still ongoing. In the meantime, Ogbunike locals have demanded more police presence and a spiritual cleansing of the neighborhood.
