The Kaduna State Government has criticized its former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, labeling him a frustrated politician who is struggling and intent on dragging others down with him.

In a statement issued Thursday, the government affirmed that it remains vibrant and resilient, stressing that no theatrics from El-Rufai’s political allies within the coalition-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) would alter that reality.

The government further emphasized that the violence associated with El-Rufai’s administration bears no resemblance to the current Sani-led government.

It also dismissed claims that it is conspiring to rig the by-elections scheduled for August 16 in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency and the Zaria, Sabon-Gari state constituencies.

Earlier, the ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna had accused the state government of plans to manipulate the forthcoming elections.

At a Thursday press conference, ADC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Jafaru Sani, accompanied by El-Rufai and the Kaduna State ADC chairman, alleged that the government intended to employ thugs to disrupt the polls and engage in vote buying.

They claimed that the state government was orchestrating rigging efforts through mass recruitment of hoodlums, bribery of electoral officials, and buying votes.

In response, the State Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, called the allegations unfounded, malicious, and a desperate tactic to undermine an election the coalition fears losing.

“Democracy in Kaduna is alive and thriving, and no amount of theatre from El-Rufai’s political leftovers in ADC will change that.

“El-Rufai is a frustrated politician who is sinking and wants to drag others along,” he said.
