In order to bring stability back to Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu has been under pressure to remove Nyesom Wike from his role as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In light of the growing hostilities between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the former governor of Rivers, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, recent events show that Tinubu’s body language indicates a lack of support for Wike.
The tension between Fubara and Wike has increased during the Christmas break due to their public back-and-forth. Wike has publicly recognized that several important members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have joined forces with Fubara as a result of this circumstance.
Reports have called on President Tinubu to step in to stop more internal strife in the state, and calls for action against Wike have grown more intense.
According to sources, the president’s position might not be in support of Wike, and a decision to reduce hostilities might soon be made.
As the 2027 elections draw near, observers have suggested that the President either fire Wike or let Fubara concentrate on leading Rivers State.
Insiders, however, suggest that Tinubu would be hesitant to give up Wike because he is thought to have a big say in Rivers politics.
Any action taken against Wike might have negative effects on the APC’s chances of winning the next election.
