Eric Chelle, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has discussed the prospect of a penalty shootout in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal match against Morocco.

Only the tournament’s last-16 match between Mali and Tunisia has been decided by spot kicks thus far.

In the November 2026 World Cup intercontinental playoff, Nigeria was defeated by the Democratic Republic of the Congo on penalties.

In response to a question on his team’s plans for a shootout in the event that the Atlas Lions game goes past extra time, Chelle said: “I will go to the mosque to pray to win if we get to a penalty shootout.”

The Eagles will play Senegal or Egypt in the final on Sunday if they defeat the host, either in regulation time or on penalties.
