Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated unequivocally that any prospective transfer to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be contingent only upon strong political assurances, especially with regard to control of Kano State and the safety of his supporters.
He made this statement on Wednesday while hosting party leaders and members from the Rano and Dawakin Tofa Local Government Areas at his Kano home on Miller Road.
Kwankwaso stated that while he is still amenable to political realignment, he will not take the chance of making the same mistakes twice.
He claims that without specific promises on the future of NNPP politicians, party leaders, and grassroots followers who are the core of the Kwankwasiyya movement, talks about joining the APC cannot proceed forward.
Kwankwaso noted that his political bloc had previously been instrumental in the formation of federal governments, but that once power was established, it was marginalized.
He cautioned against letting history repeat itself.
He emphasized that no APC leader has so far promised to maintain the Kano State administration or his political structure under any suggested partnership.
“I need clarity before making any move. Without concrete guarantees, there can be no discussion about defection,” Kwankwaso said, reaffirming the loyalty of his supporters to the NNPP pending any clear political safeguards.
