Guti, a former midfielder for Spain, has stated that Real Madrid’s first-leg matchup against Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday will be challenging.
Since the 2015–16 season, the two teams have faced off against each other six times in a Champions League knockout stage.
Madrid leads City with a 4-2 advantage, having triumphed in the latest knockout tie with a 6-3 aggregate score during last season’s playoffs.
Guti mentioned in a conversation with Efe that the LaLiga powerhouses will be relying on home support when facing Pep Guardiola’s squad.
He said: “That’s what we Madrid fans cling to, the fact that the tie is difficult, but that Madrid pride and those magical nights at the Bernabéu can return.
“Let’s see if all of that helps Madrid grow and reach a good level so that, above all, we can go into the second leg with hopes of advancing.”
