Ibrahim Khalid Mustapha, the senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has stepped down from his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmaker, in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Soba Ward in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State and dated March 27, 2026, stated that he was motivated to resign by the party’s ongoing internal crisis.
Mustapha observed that the current leadership conflicts and legal proceedings have led to significant rifts within the party, complicating his ability to maintain his membership and involvement.
“The internal crisis, unending court cases and the resulting leadership disagreement and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my membership, active participation and commitment as a member,” he stated.
He stated that the conflicts have undermined the unity and direction that previously characterized the PDP.
Even after his departure, the senator thanked party members for their backing during his political career.
“I sincerely thank all the party faithful for their support and belief in me over the years. You have been a strong pillar and I remain deeply appreciative of the trust and encouragement I have received,” he added.
Mustapha stated that the letter should be regarded as his official resignation notice from the Peoples Democratic Party.
It was reported that Senator Ibrahim Khalid’s resignation from the PDP occurs amid signs that he is set to join the ADC.
