Troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, working alongside the 1 Brigade Combat Team and Tactical Combat Support units, have launched an offensive against suspected terrorists in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

This development was disclosed in a statement shared on X by counter-insurgency and security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to him, the operation, which began at about 9:00 a.m. on May 4, focused on identified terrorist enclaves located in Kamara, Dan Gwandi, Manawa and Katsira villages.

He explained that during the offensive, troops engaged the terrorists at Katsira village, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Several of the insurgents were reportedly neutralised in the process.

The security analyst further stated that three soldiers sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and are currently receiving treatment.

“The terrorists, however, were forced to withdraw from the area, retreating towards the Fakai high ground under sustained military pressure.

“Troops are maintaining dominance in the general area, while efforts are ongoing to dislodge the fleeing elements and deny them freedom of movement,” he said.
