Market leaders, traders’ groups and representatives of different ethnic communities in Taraba State have renewed their support for government initiatives aimed at increasing internally generated revenue through voluntary tax payment.
The pledge was made during a tax awareness walk held in Jalingo, where participants collectively highlighted the role of timely tax remittance in driving sustainable development across the state.
According to the stakeholders, revenue generated internally remains vital for funding critical projects in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education and other public services that improve the quality of life of residents.
The sensitisation exercise was organised by the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS) in collaboration with i4CUS Nigeria Limited, the firm serving as the state’s revenue automation consultant.
As part of the campaign, taxpayers were introduced to a newly launched automated tax payment platform designed to modernise the state’s revenue collection process.
ZINGTIE gathered that the fully encrypted digital system was developed to promote transparency, accountability and convenience in tax payments, while also reducing leakages and strengthening revenue collection efficiency statewide.
Speaking during the exercise, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of i4CUS Nigeria Limited, Abama Judy Joy, stated that the partnership with TIRS is focused on improving Taraba’s revenue generation through innovative technology-driven solutions that align with international standards.
She explained that the digital initiative would make tax compliance easier for citizens while also boosting public confidence in the state’s revenue management system.
Participants at the rally expressed willingness to adopt the new digital platform, noting that meaningful and lasting development depends on citizens fulfilling their civic obligations through voluntary tax compliance.
The ongoing revenue reform programme, which began last year, is expected to boost internally generated revenue, improve tax compliance and create a stronger foundation for economic growth, better public services and long-term development.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service, Brigadier General (rtd) Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, said the initiative was designed to build public trust in the state’s revenue administration through direct engagement with taxpayers.
Faransa praised traders and representatives of various ethnic groups for demonstrating commitment to meeting their statutory tax responsibilities.
He also stressed the importance of continuous public education on tax matters, warning that no individual or organisation has the authority to collect taxes unlawfully or divert government funds into private accounts.
The TIRS chairman encouraged residents to use only approved tax payment channels and support efforts aimed at improving transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue collection throughout the state.
