President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the performance of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, declaring that the governor assumed office with a clear vision and readiness to deliver quality leadership.
Ahead of the June 20 governorship election, the President called on the people of Ekiti State to return Oyebanji for another term in office.
The appeal was made on Tuesday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega campaign rally held in Ado-Ekiti.
The event attracted a massive turnout of party supporters, political associates, members of allied groups, as well as residents from different ethnic and religious backgrounds who gathered to support the governor’s re-election campaign.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu commended the people of Ekiti for their unwavering support for the APC over the years.
The President stated that the state was privileged to have Oyebanji as its governor, stressing that his style of governance reflects the true essence of leadership, which is service to the people rather than intimidation or suppression of citizens’ rights.
Tinubu also praised the governor’s modesty, tolerance and cordial relationship with traditional institutions and former leaders, adding that the absence of rival campaign posters across the state reflected the governor’s broad acceptance among residents.
“On Saturday, go out and re-elect this humble and peaceful man to further serve you better,” Shettima said on Tinubu’s behalf.
The President subsequently presented Oyebanji to former governors and former first ladies, urging them to mobilise support and ensure his victory at the polls.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, who serves as Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council, described the governor’s popularity among the people as overwhelming.
Similarly, Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, said the party’s presence and grassroots engagement in Ekiti remained unmatched.
According to him, the APC was the only political party that conducted extensive door-to-door and market-to-market campaigns across the state.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwadta, also expressed confidence in the party’s chances, insisting that its optimism stemmed from Oyebanji’s strong relationship with the people rather than its status as the ruling party.
Speaking at the rally, an excited Governor Oyebanji, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, and Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, said his quest for re-election was anchored on his performance and fulfilled promises since assuming office in 2022, not on any form of federal influence.
The governor appealed to residents to maintain peace throughout the election period and assured them that a second term administration would deliver even greater accomplishments than those recorded over the last three and a half years.
