The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their governorship and State Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

The commission said the revised deadline for the submission of the candidates’ lists is now Tuesday, 11th August, 2026.

The extension followed requests from political parties seeking more time to complete the submission process.

“INEC wishes to inform political parties and the public that it has approved an extension of the deadline for the submission (upload on the dedicated portal) of the list of candidates for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections for the February 2027 General Election.

The submission window, which according to the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the General Election was originally scheduled to close, Saturday, 8th August, 2026, has been extended to Tuesday, 11th August, 2026,” the commission said.
