An unidentified Fulani man has allegedly issued a warning to residents of Benue State, declaring that they would “regret” the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and his associate, Yakubu Isa.
The individual, whose identity has not been independently confirmed, made the remarks in a video that has been circulating widely on social media following the death of the MACBAN leader.
It would be recalled that Ardo Risku was reportedly attacked and killed last week while returning from a peace meeting said to have been organized by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ohimini Local Government Area to discuss security concerns involving farmers and herders.
In the viral footage, the speaker described the deceased MACBAN chairman as an influential figure within the Fulani community, insisting that his death was equivalent to the loss of their own leader.
“Benue people will regret this. Killing this man (Ardo) is like killing our own President. It would have been better to kill the President and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, than to kill this man,” he said.
The speaker further alleged that the late Ardo Risku contributed significantly to peacebuilding efforts and the resolution of disputes within Benue State.
“This man was a peace lover. He stopped many crises in Benue. Killing him is the greatest mistake Benue people have made. You people of Benue will regret this,” he added.
As of the time of filing this report, the authenticity of the video and the identity of the man featured in it could not be independently established.
The video has continued to attract reactions online, with several Nigerians urging security agencies to investigate the threat and take proactive measures to forestall any possible security breach.
