Kabiru Abdullahi, a close associate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, has left the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Abdullahi announced his resignation from the NDC in a letter sent to the chairman of the party in Kofar Ruwa Ward, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

The prominent supporter of the Kwankwasiyya movement said his decision was influenced by what he described as several years of promises that were never fulfilled by the party.

He also announced his intention to back President Bola Tinubu’s bid for another term under the APC.

“I have been with Kwankwaso for 29 years but have only benefited from failed promises. I will go to where I will be respected more,” Abdullahi said.

He said his lengthy political relationship with Kwankwaso had failed to deliver the level of recognition and benefits he had anticipated.

Abdullahi thanked the NDC for giving him the opportunity to contribute to the party but confirmed that his resignation took immediate effect.

He thereafter declared his allegiance to the APC and expressed support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The defection occurred months after Abdullahi publicly defended Kwankwaso during a period of political controversy in Kano State.
