The People’s Redemption Party, PRP, has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s administration over persistent killings and abductions across Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to safeguard citizens and their property.
The party argued that the deteriorating security situation reflected what it described as the administration’s incompetence and disregard for the hardship experienced by communities affected by violence.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the PRP urged Nigerians to condemn the attacks and demand immediate action to address the country’s security challenges.
The party listed Kwara, Niger, Benue, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Plateau and Yobe among the states grappling with insecurity. It alleged that armed groups and criminal elements continued to assault communities with insufficient resistance from security authorities.
The PRP also accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government of making public declarations and promises without implementing effective measures to protect residents in vulnerable areas.
“The scale of the killings and abductions of helpless citizens and the rising impunity of their tormentors suggests that Nigerians live in a lawless country,” the statement said.
The opposition party further expressed concern about the pressure on military personnel and local volunteers working to repel attacks by armed groups.
According to the PRP, the continued violence has affected economic activities, destroyed livelihoods and deepened financial hardship for millions of Nigerians.
It also alleged that the government was committing excessive public resources to securing political support while citizens remained vulnerable to attacks. However, the party did not provide specific details or evidence to substantiate the allegation.
The PRP insisted that Nigerians should not be forced to wait until the end of Tinubu’s tenure in May 2027 before demanding tangible improvements in national security.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that the President remained obligated to fulfil his constitutional and official responsibilities to the Nigerian people.
“President Tinubu still has four months to go before his defeat. He has a responsibility to live up to his oath to protect the lives and welfare of Nigerians,” he said.
He called on Tinubu to accept responsibility for addressing the crisis and take urgent steps to prevent further killings and kidnappings.
The party urged the Federal Government to implement decisive measures to restore security in affected communities and protect citizens from continued attacks.
