No fewer than seven countries have secured places in the intercontinental play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Ghana and South Africa were confirmed as Africa’s representatives on Thursday after recording victories over Ivory Coast and Nigeria respectively.

The two African sides will face one of five teams in the opening round: Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Venezuela or Papua New Guinea.

Only two teams from the opening stage will progress to the next round.

They will be joined by four teams from UEFA, OFC and CONMEBOL that have received byes and will enter the competition at the final play-off stage.

The six remaining teams will be divided into three qualification paths, with each path featuring a single knockout fixture to determine the final three nations that will secure places at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
