Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Daniel Onjeh, an aspirant for the Benue South Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress, APC, has withdrawn his backing for President Bola Tinubu and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Onjeh announced the decision on Thursday while releasing footage of his recent meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC.

The former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, also declared his support for Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, describing himself as “humbly Obidient”.

In a statement accompanying the video, Onjeh said APC leaders had misunderstood his principles and revealed that he had now identified with the Obidient movement.

He wrote, “They misconstrued my principles as stubbornness. Now, I’m humbly Obidient. You go where you’re valued.”

The politician did not state the specific reason behind his decision to leave the Tinubu and Alia camp.

However, the development could be linked to his inability to secure the APC senatorial ticket ahead of the January election.

Onjeh had previously been an outspoken supporter of President Tinubu and Governor Alia before the APC senatorial primary conducted in May 2026.
