Nigerian singer, Adekunle Gold, has disclosed that genotype played a major role in his decision to marry, particularly because he is living with SS genotype.
Speaking during a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, Adekunle Gold revealed that he would not have proceeded with the marriage if his wife’s genotype was not AA.
He stressed that having children who could suffer from serious health challenges was not a risk he was willing to take.
“I wouldn’t have married my wife if she were SS or AS. Forget love. I don’t think it makes sense to bring a child into this world and they would be sickly.
“When me and my wife first met, the first thing I did was to know her genotype. She is AA. That was why I proceeded with the relationship,” he said.
Adekunle Gold has continued to promote awareness about sickle cell disease since publicly disclosing that he has the SS genotype.
The singer married fellow Nigerian artiste Simi in January 2019, and the couple have two children.
