Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have ruled out any political alliance that could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
The governors also reaffirmed their commitment to the party and pledged to remain aligned with its political direction ahead of the polls.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, spoke on behalf of the governors on Monday night.
Uzodimma made the declaration after a closed-door meeting held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
He stressed that the governors would not support any political arrangement capable of creating uncertainty or weakening the unity of the APC.
According to him, the forum would not entertain any arrangement involving divided loyalty, conflicting interests or competing political interests within the party.
Uzodimma maintained that the governors’ priority remained supporting officially recognised APC candidates across all levels rather than pursuing external political interests.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party,” Uzodimma said.
