Several political figures and their supporters from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The development was disclosed by Rt. Hon. George Alli, a Senior Legislative Aide.

Among those who defected were Hon. Adoga Edache, popularly known as Ebo, from the ADC; former Otukpo Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Inalegwu Adakonye, from the APC; and Mr Emmanuel Akoche of the ZLP.

Other defectors included Mr Garuba Sule, an APC member from Ugboju Icho, and Mr John Ojonye, Chairman of the ADC in Ugboju Ehaji Ward, alongside several other party members and their supporters.

The new members reportedly said their decision to join the PDP was influenced by the party’s leadership, people-oriented ideology and what they considered its prospects in the forthcoming elections.

The defectors were received by the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr Oyije Ochaeikiti; the Otukpo Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Godwin Ochapa; the party’s House of Assembly candidate for Otukpo/Akpa, Hon. Johnson Egli; and its candidate for Adoka/Ugboju, Hon. Gabriel Olofu.

Rt. Hon. George Alli was also present at the reception.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Ochaeikiti welcomed the defectors and assured them that they would enjoy equal opportunities and be fully integrated into the party’s activities.

He described their decision to join the PDP as a sign of the party’s expanding support base across Benue South.

The defectors, in turn, pledged their allegiance to the PDP and promised to contribute to its success at all levels in the forthcoming elections.
