Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has achieved a new milestone by recording the longest-charting solo song by an African artiste on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Her hit track, ‘What You Need’, has secured another week on the prestigious chart, bringing its total run to 30 weeks.
The achievement places Tems ahead of South African pop sensation Tyla’s ‘Water’ and Afrobeats star CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’, both of which spent 29 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
With the latest update, ‘What You Need’ currently occupies the 33rd position on this week’s chart.
The song previously reached its highest position at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Beyond its performance on the main chart, the track also climbed to the top spot on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Adult R&B Airplay charts.
