The South-South state chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have passed a vote of no confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, over his management of the campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chairmen announced their decision in a joint statement issued on Wednesday, accusing Makinde of disregarding established party structures and allegedly appointing campaign coordinators who do not belong to the party.
The six state chairmen expressed concern over what they described as ‘inadequate recognition, consultation and engagement with the party’s established leadership in organising the presidential campaign.’
The statement was endorsed by Dagodog Whyte of Rivers State, Mrs Peace Osarama of Bayelsa State, Utuku Abangaye Edet of Akwa Ibom State, Ugoigwe Onyeka Ogechukwu of Edo State, Prince Henry Ese of Delta State and Ntami Nkanu Esage of Cross River State.
They accused Makinde of dishonesty, poor financial management and a lack of effective leadership.
“We have realised that our Presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde lacks substance, the political will and focus to lead us right as a Presidential candidate,” the statement read.
The chairmen further alleged that Makinde had failed to collaborate with the party’s existing structures nationwide, choosing instead to appoint campaign coordinators from outside the organisation.
They maintained that the presidential candidate was using the APM to advance his personal political ambitions rather than operating within the party’s established framework.
