Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to immediately stop claiming the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Imo West Senatorial election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Justice Egwuatu issued the directive on Thursday, ruling that Uzodinma did not emerge victorious in the APC primary election held on May 18 and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The judge said evidence submitted before the court established that former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha secured the majority of votes cast during the primary and ought to be declared the winner.
Following the ruling, Egwuatu ordered the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to INEC as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The court further directed INEC to recognise Okorocha as the party’s legitimate candidate and publish his name accordingly.
Justice Egwuatu also ruled that several documents used in Uzodinma’s nomination were allegedly fabricated, in violation of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.
Uzodinma is the current governor of Imo State, with his tenure scheduled to end on January 14, 2028.
