Paris Saint-Germain head coach, Luis Enrique, has raised concerns over the scheduling of matches at the Club World Cup, criticizing the timing of kick-offs during the U.S. summer.
Enrique cautioned that the intense heat poses challenges for players and is far from suitable for elite-level football.
His remarks came after PSG cruised to a 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in their opening group match on Sunday.
The fixture, held at midday in Pasadena, Los Angeles, took place under extreme weather conditions, with temperatures nearing 40°C and humidity levels hovering around 60%.
Enrique said: “The match was clearly influenced by the temperature.
“The time slot is great for European audiences, but the teams are suffering.
“In terms of play, it’s impossible to perform at a very high level for 90 minutes.”
PSG will play Botafogo in Pasadena again at 6pm local time, while Atletico Madrid travel to Seattle, where the forecast is a far cooler 19°C.
