A heartbreaking incident suspected to be caused by food poisoning has resulted in the deaths of four individuals three of them children in the Magama Jibia community of Katsina State.

The deceased, identified as Hussaina Ayuba, Ahmed Ayuba, and Nana Ayuba, were confirmed dead at the Jibia General Hospital after consuming a meal believed to be spaghetti. A fourth family member, 12-year-old Hafsat Ayuba, is currently undergoing treatment and is reportedly showing signs of recovery.

Security and counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the event via his verified X handle. According to his post, the victims were taken to the hospital shortly after eating the meal but unfortunately passed away while receiving medical attention.

In a development pointing to possible intentional harm, police have arrested a 20-year-old woman named Fatima Abdulkadir who is believed to have cooked the meal along with two other individuals whose identities have not yet been disclosed.

“The sources disclosed that Fatima Abdulkadir, who prepared the spaghetti noodles allegedly consumed by the victims, along with two others, has been arrested in connection with the incident,” Makama stated.

Law enforcement officials have since conducted a visit to the location, and a formal investigation is currently ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances and cause of the tragedy.

The remains of the deceased have been returned to their family for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
