Petrol prices have surged significantly across Nigeria, with several filling stations now selling fuel between N1,364 and N1,444 per liter, highlighting the increasing influence of rising global crude oil prices on the local market.
Findings by ZINGTIE on Thursday evening revealed that major marketers, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), MRS, BOVAS, AP (Ardova), and Mobil, have adjusted their pump prices to a range of N1,364 to N1,370 per liter.
Other outlets such as AA Rano, Emedab, Empire Energy, and Ranoil are dispensing petrol at higher rates, ranging between N1,370 and N1,440 per liter.
This represents a sharp rise from the approximately N900 per liter recorded in February 2026.
The latest increase comes less than 24 hours after Dangote Refinery and depot owners raised their gantry and ex-depot prices to N1,275 and N1,320 per liter respectively, citing a spike in global crude oil prices.
Checks on Friday morning showed that Brent and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude benchmarks rose to $111 and $105 per barrel, driven by ongoing tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel in the Middle East.
The development has been further worsened by the recent withdrawal of the United Arab Emirates from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, adding to instability in the global oil market.
Reacting to the situation, the spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, said the increase in global oil prices is having a major impact on domestic fuel costs.
“Though Dangote Refinery has helped cushion the impact, global crude oil price volatility is impacting the domestic market,” he said.
The persistent increase in petrol prices has heightened calls for urgent government action, as Nigerians continue to face worsening economic conditions.
The development comes at a sensitive period, as workers celebrate May Day, with the minimum wage at N70,000 and the cost of living rising steadily alongside fuel prices approaching N1,500 per liter.
