The Visitation Panel for Sa’adu Zungur University has been given eight weeks by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to resolve outstanding problems that are causing the continuous unrest with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.
Addressing the strike’s underlying reasons, examining the university’s financial operations, and formulating a plan for efficient and cordial administration are all part of the panel’s duty.
Governor Mohammed emphasized during the panel’s inauguration the significance of their efforts in bringing the university’s teaching and learning disturbances under control.
According to him, his administration is dedicated to resolving the issues facing the education sector and acknowledges that it is the cornerstone of significant development.
Despite his previous interventions, he asked the committee to find long-term solutions to the ongoing conflict between ASUU, NASU, and the university administration.
Prof. Gambo Laraba, the panel’s chairperson, thanked the governor for the chance to serve and gave him his word that the panel would provide a thorough report that would direct institutional improvements.
ASUU at SAZU had previously called off an indefinite strike due to unpaid allowances, the appointment of a polytechnic graduate as bursar in violation of the university’s founding regulations, and the non-implementation of pension and death benefit plans.
This came after the Governor met with the union in person in the middle of December 2024.
