In the woodland corridor between Turtsawa, Mazau, and Zango villages in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, a notorious bandit commander known as Dan Dari Biyar was murdered by troops while attempting to demand a ransom from the family of abducted victims.

According to a reliable source at Army Headquarters, the bandit leader was killed by forces working under Operation FANSAN YANMA during a clearance operation.

The source claims that Biyar, who was notorious for abusing abducted people by making fun of them and then demanding hefty ransom demands, was removed on Thursday.

“He was reportedly based deep within the Tidibale forest, from where he launched coordinated attacks on communities in Lalle, Tsamaye, and parts of Gwaronyo, including the notorious razing of Gidan Sale village along the Gundumi axis.

“Military intelligence linked him to multiple raids, ambushes, and acts of arson across Sokoto East senatorial zone, particularly in hard-to-reach forest enclaves,” the source said.

According to the source, the successful operation was a component of a continuous military onslaught to drive out bandit forces and destroy their hiding places.

According to him, the operation was carried out by a combined Nigerian Army and local security volunteer team as part of the community protection program of the Sokoto State Government.

The source claims that weapons, ammo, and communication equipment were found at the spot, and that his gang members who are escaping are still being sought. (NAN)
