A former high-ranking official in Equatorial Guinea named Baltasar Ebang Engonga is at the heart of an expanding scandal involving claims of personal wrongdoing and corruption.

Formerly regarded as a key player in the nation’s battle against corruption, Engonga was the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF).

However, a slew of disclosures that have provoked popular indignation and close media attention have now seriously damaged his reputation.

Engonga’s wife recently made a public appearance in the courtroom where his trial is being held, garnering a lot of media attention and further complicating matters.

Videos of Engonga having private sex with more than 300 women went viral online, sparking the scandal.

The situation was made more serious by the fact that these women came from a variety of backgrounds, some of which included ties to powerful people in Equatorial Guinea.

Since Engonga was seen as a pivotal role in advancing financial transparency and accountability in the nation, the tapes, which were purportedly leaked from his office and other personal locations, have only served to increase public outrage.
