Following a bandit attack in the region, Nigerian Air Force airstrikes on Saturday unintentionally targeted vigilantes, members of the Zamfara State hamlet Protection Guard (ZSCPG), and some residents of the Tungar Kara hamlet in Maradun Local Government region, Zamfara State.
At least 20 people were killed in the tragedy, which happened soon after the bandits left the area, according to information obtained.
Additionally, it was discovered that the strike caught local citizens and vigilantes who had organized to protect their neighborhood. 16 bodies have been recovered so far, and as rescue operations continue, the exact number of fatalities is yet unknown.
Instead of targeting the escaping criminals, the airstrike decimated the village, leaving a path of sorrow and unsolved questions in its wake.
