Lionel Messi, captain of Argentina, has identified the leading contenders ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi, whose country are the reigning world champions, also stated that Argentina have every reason to dream of defending their title successfully at the tournament.
However, the Inter Miami superstar warned that teams like France and Spain “are in better shape.”
Speaking in an interview with host Pollo Alvarez, Messi said: “As of today, France are in great shape again.
“They have a ton of top-level players.”
Messi also named Spain and Brazil among the countries to watch closely ahead of the World Cup.
He further described Portugal as a “very competitive” side and noted that traditional European football powers such as Germany and England always remain dangerous contenders.
