The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has partnered with Unity Campus Services to launch a digital health initiative aimed at addressing the growing health crisis among students across Nigerian campuses. This was disclosed by NANS President, Comrade Olushola Ladoja, who stated that recent health screenings revealed alarming statistics: over 60% of students tested were living with stage 2 hypertension, high blood sugar levels, and severe mental stress, all within an average age of 20.

Ladoja emphasised that these statistics represent real students struggling with serious health conditions while trying to meet academic demands, saying, “These are not just statistics. They represent real students quietly suffering from serious health conditions while trying to meet academic demands.” He added that students cited a lack of medication in campus clinics, long wait times, and pressure from schoolwork as reasons for not seeking timely medical attention

To address this issue, NANS is collaborating with Unity Campus Services, a coalition including Doktorconnect, United Healthcare, WallX, and Foodbank, to deploy a digital health management system on campuses. The system allows students to monitor vital signs using smart devices in their hostels, transmitting health data to medical personnel who can respond in real-time. Ladoja explained, “The system connects to digital kiosks and mobile platforms.”

Adejorin Manuel, a key figure behind the project, highlighted the system’s features, including facial-scan diagnostics and remote consultation, saying, “This brings healthcare closer to students and reduces delays that have cost lives in the past.”

NANS is calling on stakeholders, including TETFUND, NELFUND, and university authorities, to support the initiative. Senate President, Dist. Usman Adamu Nagwaz, emphasised, “We’re not just asking for comfort. We’re demanding action to prevent the needless loss of young lives.” Ladoja urged institutions to act swiftly, stating, “We must not be the generation that looked away. We must be the generation that took action and saved the future.
