Osun election: Adeleke reveals what Tinubu did after his victory

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reached out to congratulate him after his victory in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

Adeleke made the disclosure while speaking with journalists shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him the winner of the poll.

The governor described the President’s gesture as an indication of his support for democracy and the electoral process.

“I want to seize the opportunity to thank Mr President. Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me, and I thank you for making sure democracy lives on because we fought for it,” Adeleke said.

Adeleke also expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious, explaining that his strong faith in God had kept him from fearing defeat.

“I have a God who never fails. I have a God who never fails. I have a God who never fails. He will never fail. And Jesus never fails,” he said.

The governor further expressed hope that his All Progressives Congress, APC, counterpart, Bola Oyebamiji, would accept the outcome and reach out to congratulate him.

Adeleke described such an action as a sign of political maturity and civility.

“I’m expecting Oyebamiji, even as a civilised person, to call and congratulate me,” Adeleke said.

The President’s congratulatory call came shortly after Adeleke was officially declared winner of the Osun governorship election.

The governor subsequently urged political actors and other stakeholders to respect democratic principles and accept the outcome of the election.
