Nigerians have urged the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to swiftly arrest Senator Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over an alleged threat directed at Accord Party supporters ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
A video making the rounds on social media purportedly captured the All Progressives Congress, APC, senator speaking to party supporters who were protesting alleged attacks on APC members in Ilesa.
In the footage, the senator was allegedly heard calling on APC supporters to confront Accord Party members wherever they encountered them and stop them from participating in the election.
The alleged comments have generated widespread condemnation, with several Nigerians calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the senator.
The incident has also heightened concerns about the security of voters ahead of the governorship poll.
Reacting to the development, APC chieftain, Babafemi Ojudu, appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to act without delay, describing the alleged statement as incompatible with democratic principles.
“This is unacceptable in a democracy. Not even in the heyday of military rule would a military person talk like this.
“IGP Tunde Disu, over to you. We await action,” he wrote in a post on his official Facebook page.
Similarly, Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the lawmaker.
Adeleke said the matter had moved beyond ordinary political disagreements, describing it as a national security concern that should attract the attention of President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser.
“I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi. The IGP has confirmed the video and assured me of immediate action,” Adeleke said.
Other Nigerians also used their social media platforms to call for the senator’s immediate arrest.
Fadahunsi, however, denied making the alleged remarks during an interview with TVC News on Tuesday night, claiming that the video circulating online had been created with artificial intelligence.
“The video being circulated by Davido and his group is AI-generated,” he said.
