Televangelist and Founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Dr. Chris Okafor has expressed worries about what he termed cyberbullying and has advocated for more stringent governance of Nigeria’s digital environment.

During a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday, Okafor voiced his frustration regarding the actions of bloggers and social media influencers, claiming that many are disseminating unverified information and harming reputations.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in November 2025, Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused Okafor of being involved in a long-term relationship with her and not keeping his promise to marry her.

Ogala went on to accuse the cleric of murdering her brother and of burying the head of an unknown murder victim at his church’s altar in Lagos State’s Ojodu district.

Ogala went on to accuse the cleric of murdering her brother and of burying the head of an unknown murder victim at his church’s altar in Lagos State’s Ojodu district.

In response to the controversy, Okafor stated that what hurt him most was the way bloggers and influencers purportedly targeted him over unverified allegations, without allowing him a chance to reply.

“It is so sad that most of the so-called influencers we have often connived with people to come up with fabulous lies to attract traffic to their blogs.

“Many Nigerians have suffered and are still suffering from the lies of bloggers and most often, they get away with it after destroying the image of their targets.

“Very few times, some of the influencers were arrested and dragged to court but 90 per cent of them often go free for far-fetched lies against people.

“Nigeria must find a way to safeguard its internet space, especially to ensure that innocent citizens do not get shattered over lies, demeaning their image,” he said.

The pastor emphasized the necessity for the National Assembly to enact laws governing online activities and ensuring that wrongdoers are punished to deter others.

He urged cybercrime authorities to step up their efforts in monitoring digital crimes and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

In light of his experience, Okafor expressed regret that numerous bloggers and people in the public sphere did not pursue factual information or pose essential inquiries prior to believing the claims made against him.
