The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has met with healthcare professionals and experts in the United States in a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Obi disclosed this in a statement shared on his X account on Saturday, noting that the meeting took place on Friday, June 5, 2026.

According to him, the engagement was focused on expanding his understanding of how effective health insurance systems enhance healthcare delivery, particularly in primary and emergency care services.

He stated that widening health insurance coverage remains one of his key health priorities, alongside improving primary healthcare across Nigeria’s electoral wards, training more medical personnel, and expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services.

Obi added that the discussions aligned with his broader commitment to building a healthier Nigeria through stronger and more efficient healthcare systems.

He wrote: “Building a Healthier Nigeria Through Stronger Healthcare Systems

“As part of our desire and commitment to building a healthier Nigeria, I met with some healthcare professionals and experts in the United States on Friday, June 5, 2026. The meeting was essentially to deepen my understanding of how successful health insurance systems deliver improved healthcare, especially in the areas of primary and emergency care.

“One of our key health objectives remains unchanged: to expand health insurance coverage, strengthen primary healthcare across our electoral wards, train more healthcare workers, and make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all Nigerians.”
