PFIPC Probe: Civil Service Boss Makes Surprising Admission Before Reps

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has admitted that proper due diligence was not fully observed before the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) was recognised.

Walson-Jack made the disclosure while appearing before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the activities of the controversial council.

Addressing the lawmakers, the Head of the Civil Service accepted responsibility for the oversight that led to the recognition of the alleged body.

She explained that her office acted on documents that appeared genuine without carrying out adequate verification procedures.

According to her, there was initially no reason to question the authenticity of the documents because they carried the State House logo and what seemed to be a familiar official signature.

She, however, noted that further checks, including comparisons with authentic State House correspondence and findings from a police forensic examination, later revealed that the signatures did not match.

She said, “Due diligence was not thoroughly carried out to recognise the PFIPC. I assure that my office would review our internal verification procedures to make them more robust and fraud-proof.”
