Police foil assassination plot, armed robbery attack in Ilorin

An assassination plan and armed robbery attack in Ilorin on Sunday were thwarted by prompt response by police officers and local vigilantes in the Ilorin South Local Government Area.

According to a statement released Monday in Ilorin by SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, “At about 0900hrs on 10th August, 2025, operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence from community security sources, responded to an armed robbery incident which occurred at Opeyewa Hostel, Eleko Area, Ilorin.

‎”Prompt deployment and coordinated action between police operatives and local vigilantes led to the swift arrest of two male suspects; ‎Ishola Adeyemi ‘M’ of Ibadan, Oyo State and Ismail Rafiu ‘M’ of Ibadan, Oyo State.”

Eleven iPhones, N30,500 in cash, one WiFi gadget, two new long cutlasses, two pairs of slippers, and other personal belongings are among the recovered exhibits.

During initial questioning, the police spokesperson revealed that “the suspects admitted that they were invited to Ilorin by one Qudus, alias “Tiny”, a member of the Eye Cult Fraternity, to eliminate a rival cultist. When the targeted killing failed, they resorted to robbing student hostels in the area”.

She stated that the suspects and the recovered exhibits have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Robbery Section (SCID) at State Headquarters in Ilorin for additional covert investigation and prosecution.

The cooperation between law enforcement and community security systems, which guaranteed the suspects’ prompt capture, was praised by Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo.

The Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for violent crimes and asked citizens to be on the lookout for unusual activity and notify security services right away.
