River crisis: Tinubu meets with suspended governor in London

President Bola Tinubu’s working travel to Europe on Tuesday appeared to include a meeting with Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State.

The Presidency remained silent on the issue, despite The Africa Report claiming that Governor Fubara requested the meeting.

There was no success in getting the presidency to confirm the meeting.

An insider claims that the meeting was important since it was the first time since the declaration of state of emergency that Tinubu and the suspended governor had met in person.

In his March 18 national broadcast, Tinubu mentioned “months of intense political instability” that had “threatened national stability” and “paralyzed governance.”

The President designated Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, as the only administrator.

Sources claim that the purpose of the meeting was to resolve the ongoing problem and reduce ongoing tensions.

According to officials, the two talked about bringing back a functioning administration in the oil-rich state.

The conference, according to people close to the presidency, looked at possibilities for Fubara’s potential comeback.

According to reports, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Fubara’s estranged political godfather, was not present during the meeting and is concerned about its implications.
