Prince Abiola Kosoko, the Oloja-Elect of Lagos, has disputed the contentious claim that Lagos is a “no man’s land.”
Speaking at the just-ended King Kosoko Memorial Lecture in Lagos, Kosoko said that the assertion—which is frequently made by locals who are not native to Lagos—is an idiotic attempt to change the course of history.
Kosoko declared, “Lagos can never be a no man’s land.”
He explained that although a large number of people live and pay taxes in the city, real indigenous people have a stronger ancestry connected to the land.
“I am an indigene of Lagos, not just a citizen. Those who claim Lagos is no man’s land are citizens or residents who can leave at any time. But for me, Lagos is my home—my ancestral home—and I will always hold onto it,” he said.
Kosoko also emphasised Lagos’s development into a thriving commercial centre, highlighting the city’s significance as a hub for commerce and business.
Lagos was once a “commodity centre,” but it has since developed into a “profitable hub for commercial and trade activities,” according to him.
