Temilade Openiyi, a Grammy-winning Nigerian artist better known as Tems, has made history as the first African female musician to achieve seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

After her track ‘What You Need’ unexpectedly entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at position 93 this week, the singer reached the milestone of seven total entries.

With seven entries each, Tems now ties her fellow Nigerian Burna Boy and South African band Seether for the record of most Billboard Hot 100 appearances by African musicians.

In 2022, Tems became the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her collaboration with Future and Drake on the song ‘Wait For U.’

Tems is set to break the tie with Burna Boy and Seether, as J. Cole’s “Bunce Road Blues” featuring her and Future is expected to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week.
