Renowned African industrialist and philanthropist, Aliko Dangote, has once again earned a spot on TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026, reinforcing his status as one of the most successful and influential business leaders of his generation.
Dangote is joined by global powerhouses from a range of sectors, including political leaders such as U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church, as well as influential business and technology leaders like Google CEO Sundar Pichai and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
TIME’s annual list, published on April 15, 2026, honors global figures whose leadership, ideas, and actions are shaping the future across business, politics, culture, and society. Dangote’s inclusion places him alongside key international figures from diverse spheres of influence.
This marks Dangote’s second appearance on the prestigious TIME100 list, having first been recognized in 2014 for his remarkable impact in business and philanthropy. His return to the list more than a decade later highlights the continued depth and breadth of his global influence.
Dangote, recognized for his industrial leadership in Africa, is the only Nigerian featured and is listed in the “Titans and Innovators” category. Other prominent honorees in this category include Reid Wiseman, Commander of the Artemis II mission to the moon; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet; and Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube.
The “Titans” category also includes Michael and Susan Dell, well-known American tech billionaires and philanthropists, and Ralph Lauren, the billionaire designer behind the global empire of Ralph Lauren Corporation.
In the “Pioneers” category, individuals with breakthroughs in science and social advocacy, such as Kiran Musunuru and Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas for their work in genetic therapy, and Aaron Williams, recognized for advancements in heart transplant readiness, were also acknowledged.
The TIME100 list also features figures from global entertainment and culture, such as Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor, cultural icon Dakota Johnson, and actress Kate Hudson, for their influence on the cultural landscape.
As the founder and president of Dangote Group—Africa’s largest indigenous industrial conglomerate—Dangote has played a central role in advancing industrialization across the continent. Under his leadership, the company has made substantial investments in cement manufacturing, sugar and food processing, agriculture, infrastructure, and more recently, energy. These efforts have significantly reduced Africa’s dependence on imports while creating millions of jobs, both directly and indirectly.
TIME Magazine’s citation highlights Dangote’s vision of building African industries with local resources for global competitiveness, noting his recent investments in large-scale energy and manufacturing infrastructure as key examples of his commitment to Africa’s economic transformation.
Beyond business, Dangote is widely respected for his philanthropic leadership through the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), one of Africa’s largest private philanthropic organizations. The Foundation supports initiatives in healthcare, nutrition, education, disaster relief, and economic empowerment, improving outcomes for vulnerable communities across the continent.
This 2026 recognition reflects a broader global acknowledgment of African leadership, innovation, and enterprise, with Dangote standing as a symbol of the continent’s growing role in shaping global economic and development narratives.
Dangote’s latest honor consolidates his legacy as a visionary industrialist and philanthropist, whose work continues to drive sustainable development, inclusive growth, and long-term value creation—both in Africa and beyond.
Under his leadership, Dangote Group recently launched Vision 2030, aiming to transform from a $30 billion regional conglomerate into a $100 billion global powerhouse by 2030. This strategy focuses on industrial self-sufficiency for Africa, shifting the company from regional dominance to global relevance.
Dangote has outlined that Vision 2030 will unfold in phases, with Phase One (2025-2028) focused on scaling existing businesses such as cement, fertilizer, and energy, and optimizing assets for international competitiveness. Phase Two (2028-2030) will focus on new ventures and businesses entering global markets, with plans to expand into steel manufacturing, power, and deep-sea ports to address industrial bottlenecks across Africa.
This recognition by TIME underscores the growing global acknowledgment of African leadership and innovation and highlights Aliko Dangote’s enduring influence as a visionary leader committed to sustainable development and inclusive growth.
