United States Senator Ted Cruz has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is focusing on engaging American lobbying firms while concerns over the persecution of Christians in Nigeria persist.

Cruz made the allegation in a statement issued on Wednesday, claiming that Nigerian authorities chose to launch a public relations campaign against critics instead of addressing concerns raised by the United States.

Recall that after campaigning against what he described as the genocide of Christians in Nigeria, Senator Cruz introduced the “Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act, 2025,” a bill proposing sanctions against government officials accused of enabling the killing of Christians and enforcing “blasphemy laws.”

According to the US lawmaker, certain Nigerian officials have created conditions that allegedly encourage violence against Christians and other religious minorities through the implementation of blasphemy and Sharia laws while failing to act against jihadist attacks.

“The US government knows the Nigerian officials responsible for these policies; I have been pushing my bill to sanction them, and President Trump has even ordered military action,” he said.

The senator further alleged that Nigerian authorities remain confident they can maintain the current situation, while expressing satisfaction with President Donald Trump’s response to the reported persecution of Christians in the country.
