The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has taken a new turn following the defection of 34 House of Assembly aspirants to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The latest development comes only days after a controversial primary election divided the ADC into opposing camps, with rival factions claiming ownership of the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, indications have emerged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is making efforts to woo former governorship aspirant, Mustapha Inuwa, back into the party.

Reports suggest that influential APC stakeholders have engaged Inuwa in separate meetings as part of strategic moves aimed at strengthening the party’s position before the next electoral cycle.

Inuwa, who played a key role in the formation of the APC in Katsina State, left the party after failing to secure its governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 election.

Following his departure, he joined the PDP and later served as campaign director for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Katsina State before eventually moving to the ADC.

According to reports, APC leaders initially delegated former Chief of Staff to the governor, Jabiru Tsauri, to meet with Inuwa.

Subsequently, the Deputy Governor, Lawal Jobe, was also said to have held a private meeting with the former governorship aspirant, although the details of the discussions were not disclosed.

At the same time, the ADC continues to battle internal divisions triggered by its governorship primary election.

Different groups within the party have questioned the emergence of Ahmed Kaita as the party’s governorship candidate.

Some aspirants alleged that the primary election process lacked transparency and failed to meet established electoral standards.

The dispute has further intensified uncertainty within the party’s structure across the state.

On Tuesday, 34 House of Assembly aspirants drawn from 18 local government areas formally defected to the PDP.

The defectors cited injustice, poor leadership, and the absence of internal democracy within the ADC as reasons for their decision.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Ahmad Yusuf Jaguma said they no longer had confidence in the leadership of the party.

“We thought deeply, and we found that PDP is the solution. We left a disorganised journey and returned to our original home,” he said.

Jaguma added that many members had initially hoped that PDP leader, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, would join the ADC, but reconsidered their position when that expectation did not materialise.

Receiving the new members, Katsina State PDP Chairperson, Nuraddeen Kurfi, assured them of fairness and equal opportunities within the party.

“You will have a full opportunity and justice in PDP. This party is home for everyone,” he said.

PDP governorship candidate, Yakubu Danmarke, also welcomed the defectors and expressed confidence that more politicians would join the party in the coming weeks.
